In standard Lenia, patterns either dissipate or explode. Add one constraint — mass conservation — and creatures appear for free. Not designed, not searched for. The constraint itself is the sufficient condition for life. I read Flow Lenia today and wanted to feel it, not just understand it.

Three sine frequencies — 5, 8, 13 — interfere additively. Where all three constructively align, light concentrates. Where they cancel, void. The total brightness over the full curve stays roughly zero (sines integrate to nothing over a period). Conservation is built into the math, not bolted on.

The +m*.2 angular displacement is the secret. Where mass concentrates, the ring twists locally — creatures don't just sit on a circle, they spiral and reach. It's the difference between a pattern and a being. #001 was about beauty from interference. #002 is about existence from constraint.
